Top 5 Social Events of 2020
1. Sealed with a Kiss Signature Experience
Our Members stepped into the world of The USO for the Sealed with a Kiss Signature Experience. The day began with Jack Lalanne exercises to get their bodies moving! Of course, sending mail to our service men and women is an important part of supporting our military overseas, so we wrote letters to thank them! While they were writing letters, our attendees were given Ration Cards to bring to our Chocolate Ration Station! A sweet treat to enjoy, the Ration Station had a chocolate fountain, fruit, chocolate bars, and chocolate-covered strawberries! For Dinner, our Dining Services team provided our “Mess Hall” with a delicious and classic meal! The menu included a chopped spinach salad, roast beef au jus, white cheddar mash, and a Lazy Daisy Cake! We welcomed ‘Letters From Home’ a USO tribute who put on a riveting show! This duo travels the world honoring our Veterans, Active Military, and their families through patriotism and music! They dazzled Members with their tap dancing, singing, and comedy! They had us crying with their powerful salute to our veterans and laughing as they brought Members up on stage with them! It was truly a day ‘Sealed with a Kiss’.
2. Aloha Signature Experience
Here at The Lakes at Litchfield, our Members feel the island vibes all year long! Living on Pawleys Island is a beautiful place to call home. Our Aloha Signature Experience was a great way to bring the tropical islands of Hawaii into our community. Our Wellness Director, Theresa started the day off with a “Don’t Lei Around” workout where attendees got their hula skirts! Local experts joined our Members to share their knowledge of dancing the Hula. While later in the day, Barbara Hunn from the Orchid Society discussed the care, history, and various species of Orchids. For a cold island treat, Kona Ice Truck brought us cool snow cones to enjoy in the warm weather! An important part of Hawaiian culture includes folklore and customs, so Bob Urlich came to speak! Bob is a Hawaiian native, who shared the stories he grew up hearing and passed them along to our Members. For the grand finale, Members made their way to our courtyard to see the professional hula dancers and a fire performer!
3. The King Visits The Lakes
The Lakes at Litchfield welcomed Jeff Keener from Keener Entertainment to perform as The King, himself. Elvis Presley! He thought that celebrating Elvis’ birthday with our Members would make his birthday a great one! Elvis provided so much entertainment with his music and dance moves! Members loved the performance, but they loved the opportunity to meet Elvis and get his autograph! Our Dining Services team prepared peanut butter and banana sandwiches as a snack, the King’s favorite!
4. Carriage Rides
The holidays are a time for enjoying traditions – new and old. Every year Members at The Lakes at Litchfield enjoy the magic of horse-drawn carriage rides around our community. We welcomed a horse named Sarah to take our Members on an afternoon community tour! Many Members had the opportunity to ride along, feed Sarah and pet her. To stay warm, we had hot cocoa and our attendees loved singing Christmas carols along the way.
5. BrookGreen Gardens at Christmas
Brookgreen Gardens is a local gem on Pawleys Island and we love attending throughout the year! During the holiday season, Brookgreen hosts the ‘Great Christmas Light Show!’. This was a wonderful experience for our Members to enjoy the lights and coordinated music of the holidays in a socially distanced and safe way. Our attendees were completely mesmerized by the lights as they danced to the music.
